If you return to Eighties Cars more than once, you’ll notice that I describe standard equipment and options differently in each blog post.
The reasoning here is that I want each post to reflect the specific flavor of the manufacturer at the time. Thus, readers will see varied descriptions of features such as rack and pinion steering and steel-belted radial-ply tires. In general, where possible, I use the phrasing used in brochures or advertising of the day.
This behavior occasionally extends to actual vehicle names. You’ll see this with Ford (where the use of 2-door sedan persisted deep into the eighties) and Porsche (where the company seemingly couldn’t figure out what to call specific versions of the 911 and 928).
